Cannabis and Acne

Acne is a frustrating condition that can ruin your self-esteem. Not just that, it also can cause your skin to get irritated. Right now, there isn’t a single cure, but there are lotions, creams, along with some gels that may help with this. There are some topicals that also contain steroids and antiseptics, and others may also contain cannabis parts to help with this. But can weed help? Here’s what we know.

What Acne Is

This is a skin condition that makes your skin oily, red, and irritated, with little pimps popping up in your skin area. Some of the symptoms include:

  • Spots that create cysts, whiteheads, and blackheads
  • Nodules underneath
  • Itching
  • Red, oily, and inflamed skin
  • Scarring
  • Mental health problems, including depression and anxiety.

This happens due to some of the problems with the pores, especially within your sebaceous glands.

This usually causes it to amass there, and the, you’ve got dead skin, and also black oil types of pores, which cause the backlog too.

There are some factors that make it more likely that you’ll get this condition, including but not limited to:

  • Puberty and pregnancy
  • Birth control
  • High-sugar foods
  • Genetics from people who also had acne

How cannabis Can Help

Some people use cannabis to help with this.

This is because, your ECS can help to balance out the sebaceous glands. Cannabis has cannabinoids, which work together within your body, in order to also break down some of the enzymes that are there which cause this.

There is some research that has found that this can help with ensuring that your epithelial cells that are within the sebaceous glands actually work to offer the right balance between your production of sebum, and also, helping to make it easier for your body to properly register, and balance all of this out.

THC or CBD?

This is a major question for a lot of users. There are a few that say one over the other. While CBD doesn’t get you high, THC can.

THC is a bit more controversial, but it does activate both the CB1 and the CB2 receptors, which is similar to how the endocannabinoids would in your body.

The higher levels of the anandamide also may help with the sebum reduction. There are some studies right now looking to see if THC could get the same effect through the stimulation of this.

It also was found that this can help with the inflammation and pain that comes from this. Though, there is the downside of it also being psychoactive, so keep that in mind.

Then there is CBD, which is not psychoactive, and it increases the anandamide levels.

However it is of note to say that thee is no programmed cell death that happens with this.

There are some researchers looking however, at to what level CBD can help with the sebum production management, once the cells have been exposed to different substances that tend to increase this.

Your microbiome is definitely influenced by this, and with more and more studies, it’s clear that this could benefit your acne-ridden skin in a more holistic manner.

Right now, there are still more and more studies being done on the different types of skin conditions that cannabis can help with.

Some of the studies include:

  • Psoriasis
  • Eczema
  • Vitiligo
  • Rosacea

While we don’t have all of the answers yet, it’s very clear through the use of cannabis, there are a lot of beneficial results that can happen directly from this as well too.
