When a cannabis plant goes into the flowering stage after the vegetative moments, it’s possible to look at the seed of the plant. Usually, when you’re growing these inside, they show the female parts much faster, and the same with the male ones.
You’ve also got the Hermes, or hermaphrodites, that offer both female and male organs, and this is due to the stress that’s there. with the way the anatomy works, there are a few ways to tell each of these apart as well.
Characteristics of the males.
There are certain types of characteristics that male plants have, which are worth mentioning:
- Stalks are thicker
- Less leaves
- There are small sacs in the preflowers
- They don’t have buds that are used
- They have clusters that are dangling, small, and look like bells
- They don’t have as much THC or other cannabinoids
- They have a weaker smell or taste
- They’re not as psychoactive
Female Plant characteristics
The females are a little bit different, and it’s bit more obvious when you compare them to males:
- The stalks tend to be thinner, with bigger and more leaves
- The buds are used
- The preflowers have hairs or pistils
- They have teardrop-shaped flowers
- They produce a lot of the cannabinoids that you want
- They offer psychoactive results
- They have a very strong aroma and flavor
The purpose of Male Plants
A lot of male plants are basically used with the intent to improve the cycle, but there are other types of uses for this.
They are great for enriching the soil, as they may have fewer terpenes, but they’re great for offering scents that are natural.

They also tend to have longer taproots that can enrich your soil a bit better, offering a lot more moisture, and some nutrients to push deeply into there. They also can have some good micronutrients that are on par with mulch and compost composition too.
They also are great because they have fibers which are a bit softer when compared to females. That means, these materials make napkins, some linens, even hemp clothing and a lot more. The males also tend to have a lot more fiber percentages than what the females have, so if you’re someone who likes to make things, they’re good.
They also are good for concentrates and hash. The plants that contain male features usually offer a decent amount of cannabinoids. If you put it all together, then yes, you can make some good cannabis concentrates. This is ultimately based on how much you have, and what you want to do.
You can also use male cannabis plants for edibles. They still have cannabinoids, so provided that you decarb them, you’ll be able to make them by steeping them into butter, and finally, infusing them into drinks and even foods that you can enjoy. You can save the females for stronger stuff, but the males work well too!
They also do contain seeds, which have a ton of fatty acids, vitamins, and amino acids. The females only have seeds when they pollinate, so the cool thing about this is you can eat these seeds. Alternatively, you can move the males away so that they don’t pollinate them.
The roots as well are also good because of the phytochemicals on this. While there is still much to learn, there is a promising effort to learn about the different compounds of this, and the benefits of such.

Male plants are great, and when you use them right, can provide much-needed benefits.
