How to Save Money at Your Dispensary

Let’s be honest – buying weed is one of the best uses of your money. Sure, it can be expensive, but what else lets you enjoy yourself as much as marijuana? However, having enough money to buy marijuana every month can be a bit of a problem. Whether you are using recreational marijuana for fun, or you rely on medical marijuana to treat certain health conditions, it can be hard to afford buying cannabis from week to week. For many people that consume large amounts of marijuana over the course of a month, growing their own plants from home makes the most sense. Medical marijuana users arguably have it the worst.

Unlike when using other medications like synthetic opioids or other prescription drugs, the costs of medical marijuana are not normally covered by health insurance. And I don’t just mean the cost of actually buying weed – medical marijuana users have to shell out their own cash for doctors appointments, renewal fees, and much more. Now that cannabis is becoming more and more accessible in the United States, one would assume that it is becoming more affordable as well. Unfortunately that is just not the case. In some states, marijuana prices continue to climb due to the limited number of dispensary licenses available for businesses to use.

Not to mention, affording the license for selling marijuana is also a hefty cost. So how much money does the average person in the United States spend on weed? Well, a recent poll reports that almost half of all consumers visiting a dispensary spend between $500 and $2500 on weed per year. Honestly, this seems a bit low to me. MAybe I have just been interacting with potheads, but I feel like dropping $250 a month on weed alone is relatively normal for stoners.

Either way, it is important to save as much money as you can when you are buying weed. That, after all, is why you are here. Whether you are a recreational user or a medical user, it is important to try to pinch every penny out of your weed buying habits in order to save your money in the long run. One of the most important parts of saving money at your dispensary is waiting for sales and deals to come along. If you have looked at any dispensary website recently, you will probably have noticed various sales and deals going on – they are pretty much going on all the time.

If you can look for weekly or monthly specials on specific products, you may find yourself saving a ton of money over the course of a month or so. In the event that dispensaries order too much of one strain, or have a product that is close to expiring, you may find random products on the shelves that are marked down well over the MSRP. Also, you may be entitled to certain discounts that dispensaries have going on all the time – healthcare workers, veterans, senior discounts, and more! It is at least worth looking into, especially if you are having trouble affording your cannabis every week.

The next thing that you can do to save money at the dispensary is to buy in bulk when there is a sale going on. Most medical marijuana card users will have a limit of what they can buy per month, generally capped at about 2-3 ounces per month of whole flower weed. If a dispensary ordered too much of a certain strain, or they are maybe dropping a certain strain, you could find massive blowout sales with heavily discounted prices.
